How We Use Tracking on This Site
We're upfront about what data we collect and why. You're in control of your tracking preferences.
Your Current Settings
What Actually Happens Here
Like most financial websites, cruelrix.com uses tracking technologies. Some are needed to make the site work. Others help us understand what's useful to visitors and what isn't.
This page explains what we track, why we do it, and how you can opt out of everything except the essential bits.
The Different Types We Use
Essential Tracking Required
These keep the site functional. They remember if you're logged in and maintain security. Without them, basic features won't work.
Functional Tracking
These remember your preferences so you don't have to reset things every visit. Things like display settings or saved tools you've used before.
Analytics Tracking
We use these to see which pages get visited most, where people drop off, and what content actually helps. No personal identification involved.
Marketing Tracking
These track whether ads or campaigns brought you here. They help us figure out which outreach efforts are worth continuing.
What We Actually Collect
When you browse cruelrix.com, we might gather:
- Pages you visit and how long you stay
- Which links you click on
- What device and browser you're using
- General location (city level, not your street address)
- Whether you came from a search engine or social media
- Forms you fill out or tools you interact with
We don't collect bank details, passwords, or anything deeply personal through tracking. Financial data stays within secure forms and encrypted systems.
Why We Bother With This
The honest answer? Because we want to make the site more helpful.
If everyone bounces from our savings calculator after ten seconds, that tells us something's wrong. If a particular blog post keeps people reading for eight minutes, we know that topic resonates.
Analytics help us spot broken links, confusing navigation, and content that misses the mark. Marketing tracking shows which campaigns bring engaged visitors versus drive-by traffic.
Essential tracking just keeps everything running. You'd notice immediately if we turned those off.
How Long This Stuff Sticks Around
Different types have different lifespans:
Session-Based Tracking
These disappear when you close your browser. They're temporary by design and mainly handle things like shopping basket contents or form progress.
Short-Term Tracking
These last a few days to a couple of weeks. Usually for remembering minor preferences or tracking short campaign performance.
Long-Term Tracking
Some stick around for months or even up to two years. These remember login details (if you choose) or long-term preferences. Marketing tracking often falls into this category too.
You can clear any of these manually through your browser settings whenever you want. More on that below.
Taking Control of Your Tracking
The button at the top of this page lets you reject everything except essential tracking. Click it and we'll remove non-essential items immediately.
Your choice gets saved in your browser, so you won't see constant popups asking again. If you change your mind later, just come back to this page.
Browser-Level Controls
Every major browser lets you block or delete tracking manually. Here's where to look:
Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
Blocking all tracking will affect how the site works. Some features might not remember your preferences or function smoothly.
Third-Party Tracking
We use a few external services that place their own tracking:
- Google Analytics: Shows us traffic patterns and user behavior
- Google Ads: Tracks campaign performance and conversions
- Facebook Pixel: Measures ad effectiveness on social platforms
These services have their own privacy policies. We don't control what they do with aggregated data, though we only use them for standard analytics and advertising measurement.
You can opt out of targeted advertising across the web through the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out page or by using browser extensions designed for this.
Updates to This Policy
We'll update this page if we start using new tracking methods or change how we handle data. The "Last Updated" date at the bottom shows when we last made changes.
Significant updates might prompt a notification when you next visit, but we won't spam you about minor wording tweaks.
